Puppy Troubleshooting & Support
How to Get the Most Out of Troubleshooting
Every week, we receive many emails from our wonderful Habibi Bear families, and we’re always happy to help! With over 30 years of experience in puppy raising, we are here to support you in overcoming challenges and strengthening your bond with your pup. To ensure you receive the most effective guidance, here are some tips to make the most of our troubleshooting advice.
Helping Us Help You. When reaching out for support, providing as much context as possible is key. The more details we have about what led up to an issue, the better we can offer tailored solutions.
Example: Sudden Potty Accidents. A family reached out because their puppy suddenly started using the carpet runner instead of the litter box. After asking a few questions, we discovered two big changes: a major home remodel and a recent vacation. These stressors likely triggered the behavior, allowing us to quickly implement course correction with minimal stress.
Course Correction Steps
• Restrict Puppy’s Area – Back to basics. Supervision before and after meals ensures success. The puppy was placed near the litter box immediately during key times.
• Praise and Reward – When the puppy used the litter box, high-value treats and positive reinforcement encouraged the correct behavior.
• Consistent Supervision – Vigilance is key. The puppy was not allowed in unsupervised areas until the habit was fully re-established.
After just one day of course correction, the puppy was back on track. However, the family maintained the restricted area for a few weeks to ensure long-term success.
Why We Don’t Recommend Pee Pads
We do not suggest using pee pads on the floor. Puppies can struggle to differentiate between a pee pad and a rug, leading to confusion. Instead, if you’re offering an indoor potty option, we recommend:
• Litter Boxes
• Indoor Grass Potties (e.g., Bark Potty, Brilliant Pad, Little Wolves)

Just a little update on Panda Bear: My high school friend was up this week, and she trains labradors for service people. She was so impressed with Panda Bear. She said he’s so smart, CALM, and just a wonderful puppy. I showed her your manual and she said it’s the same steps that they use for training their dogs anyway I just love him and he is settling in perfectly.

Ghost is so great for my kids and family. He is such a special dog, he loves to cuddle with his girl, Emma and now that the baby is here, he doesn’t know who to choose, so since Emma is always holding her brother, Ghost gets to cuddle both of them. If you ask Ghost, the baby is his, not ours! He also loves to watch tv, its so adorable.
