So what is a “started” pup?  We at the Habibi Bear Central Hub, the home of the Original Teddy Bear dog, use the term to describe those lucky puppies whose parents have added Puppy Charm School on to their purchase package. Think of it as the transition between life with their littermates to living with you and your family. We at Habibi Charm School give the lucky little ones a good head start:

1. Sleeping alone comfortably. It takes time for a young puppy to learn to sleep on their own away from the warm bodies of their brothers and sisters, and that is one of the advantages of Puppy Charm School, where we begin the process for you. “Our puppy is sleeping through the night without a sound,” is just one of the many comments that we hear from our “started” pup families.

2. Learning where to potty is a complicated orchestra that requires a certain developmental level of sensory awareness and physical coordination. With our thirty-five years of experience, and the innate desire that puppies have to follow what they see older dogs doing, puppies attending Charm School are reported having an easier time at their forever homes finding the correct place to potty. While it is very rare that any puppy is fully potty trained until 6 months of age, our “Started” puppy families are reporting less accidents and an overall easier time keeping up potty training protocols.

3. Learning familiar with basic cues like “sit” through organic and intuitive methods. We do like to use “clicker training” (insert link) to capture the wanted or desired behavior. We pay with treats immediately so that our puppies begin to associate the sound of the clicker, the sound of the command, and the action very quickly when a yummy treat is the motivation. We also work on “watch me” (eye contact), “touch,” “place,” and “come.” These cues are the basis for good manners as they grow and develop, with some consistency and upkeep on the family side after going home.

4. The privilege of interacting with kind, trusted dogs of different ages and sizes. If you have never had the pleasure of seeing how our roly poly Habibi Bear puppies play with bigs or littles, you are missing out on one of life’s treasures. Under our supervision, puppies learn through gentle exposure at their own pace, the give and take of puppy play (insert link).

Of course, Puppy Charm School  does not take the place of a fully-trained puppy by any means. It does, however, provide a good foundation for the necessary routine and consistency needed to give your Habibi Bear puppy the very best start in life, so that their arrival into their forever home with you will be seamless and as smooth as possible.

Remember to reach out to us with your success stories or pictures because we love hearing about how wonderful our Habibi Bear puppies are doing in their forever homes. We are always here for you, cheering you on!
