We at the Habibi Bear Central Hub take great pride and immense pleasure in laying a strong foundation for you and your Habibi Bear puppy, one that allows for a smooth going home transition time. In case you didn’t know or weren’t aware, that involves maintaining your puppy on a routine schedule for just about everything! At our place, your puppy sleeps on a schedule, wakes on schedule, naps on a schedule, eats on a schedule, and takes their potty breaks on a schedule. They even play on a schedule! Our puppies learn that we are the regular and routine provider of all the good stuff and fun that they experience in their fresh new lives here on planet earth.
There’s an excellent reason for paying strict attention to ‘attending’ to your puppy’s biological needs (food, sleep, shelter).
When all of a puppy’s biological needs are met, several things occur. It allows the survival portion of the brain to relax and rest, because puppy is sated, rested and has a place to den, where they can observe the world around them in safety. From your Habibi Bear puppy’s state of well-being, they can begin to take in the new sights, smells, textures and sounds all around them and begin to learn about their world and their place in it. They learn to develop preferences and problem solving skills that will help them as they grow into the Super-Pups they are!
This process takes place over time when puppies are exposed to routine conditions and regular schedules.
The more hit and miss a schedule is, the longer it takes puppy to move out of survival mode into exploratory (learning) mode. Think about all the new things that puppies have to learn when they arrive at their new forever homes. They need to learn that the new place where they are sleeping is just as safe and comfortable as the last home they had. Your puppy needs to learn that you are now their reliable source of food and protection. They need to learn where to potty, and where their place in your home should be. Quite often, in fact most of the time, puppies transitioning into a new home need decompression time (minimum 72 hrs) to come out of a freeze state of high alert to begin to relax into the smells and sounds of a new home (see Chill Out: Rule of Three May 2023). Above all, your Habibi Bear puppy will need to learn to adjust to your communication style, body language and tone of voice. Both of you will need to establish and develop a system of sincere communication between two different species, one verbal and one non-verbal, to begin to build a bond of trust and good will that hopefully will serve you both for the years to come.
Wanna know who a pup will trust?
The nice lady or kind man who gives them the best goodies every day! Consistently feeding your puppy delivers the same hit of oxytocin that their mama’s milk did, sending their fluffy little hearts into expansion and promoting you into the Hero of the Year in their puppy dog eyes. Your Habibi Bear puppy is able to make the affection “transfer” from us to you when you keep to their feeding schedule. That is why we not only give you a feeding schedule with your Habibi Bear puppy, but a daily schedule for you to maintain, helping make going to a new home as easy as possible. We want puppy to see you as their source of love and goodness. It’s part of our mission to spread the love, one pup and home at a time. After all, Habibi means my beloved, and we are all about the LOVE.
How is the transition going in your home with your Habibi Bear Puppy? Remember to ask us any questions or bring up any concerns you may have as you settle into new routines with your puppy. We love hearing from our Habibi Bear Tribe and receiving updates on our puppies. We are always here for you, cheering you on!
