The purpose behind
Habibi Bears
We love our families and we have created this breed just for you! The Habibi Bear was born out of a need, but that need and purpose has continued to grow and evolve as we get feedback from our amazing Habibi Bear Tribe. We are always interested in your stories–even your struggles–as they help us better evaluate the long-term success of our dogs and pairings.
The majority of our dogs go on to be much more than just companion animals; in the beginning most of our clients came to us with a child in need, looking for a pet to be more than just a buddy, they were looking for a dog to become emotional support for their child. As time went I learned that many of these dogs provided much more than emotional support. Many were becoming service animals, therapy animals, and facility dogs for courtrooms, classrooms, and offices.

With so much at stake in the alignment of the dog to the lifestyle and needs of the family, we simply can’t do things like everyone else, there is too much at stake. We have to send you home with the right puppy. The right puppy that will turn into the dog that will thrive in your life, meet your needs, and the unique challenges your situation presents–often what you’re getting the dog for.
We do this by working to understand you, your family, your lifestyle, and how you would like the dog to integrate into your life. This isn’t a test at all, there are no answers that are better or worse, but there will be some dogs that will be better suited to your lifestyle–everyone’s needs are unique.
Once have a thorough understanding of you, we can assess the right temperament and personality of your ideal puppy match. The better the match, the easier the dog will seamlessly integrate into your family: a dog that truly feels like a family member.
Many people don’t understand that dogs are different. They all have their own unique temperaments, drives, personalities, and preferences–just like your kids, even though they have the same parents!
When we take the time to understand the dog and their unique differences and personality, then we can see where that dog will thrive. Some dogs are extroverts, loving to be in the middle of a busy classroom, while others are more introverted, preferring to spend the day with just you in your office and family when they come home. Some dogs will thrive with other dogs around in addition to the human family, while other dogs don’t mind being the only dog.
It’s for this reason that we simply cannot send you a video or a few photos of the newly born pups and have you pick which you like, it would be a disservice to you and to the dog. Temperament testing is done at a later date, when the pups are able to explore and interact and show who they really are. Some buyers find this process frustrating, we understand it can be a little uncomfortable, but we encourage you to “trust the process.” Many of our buyers come back to us for a second, third (or fourth!) dog and tell us to simply pick which one, because they now understand and believe in what we are doing.

Our dogs are bred to do incredible things. They are so emotionally intuitive and they have such an ability to read the room and meet you where you’re at. This intuitive ability requires a great respect when working with them, both as the breeder, raising the puppies, but also for you, the owner, to work with a dog that has such incredible gifts. We’ve developed a unique method that caters to these unique gifts and abilities, allowing the dogs to thrive in the homes we place them in.
Home Environment
We know you’re planning to enjoy your dog in your home, as a part of your family. To best set you and the pups up for success, in your home, we’ve developed our puppy room to be just like a home (with a few adjustments for safety).
We like to think of it as the Puppy Enrichment Center: a place where puppies are brought into the world with love and they are raised to trust humans, setting them up for a lifelong relationship with you.
Puppy Charm School
Our in-house Puppy Charm School is Montessori for puppies – a headstart for your puppy. It follows our Habibi Method and is focused on helping the puppy learn manners that make living with a puppy easier, such as crate training, house training, basic cues, along with socialization.
This way when you get your puppy the transition is easier and you won’t have your heart broken as you hear them crying in the crate.
We’ve Been Doing this a Long Time
35+ years raising our dogs
We began breeding back in 1989 … so we’ve been doing this a few years 😅. I can’t really remember life before breeding, I love it.
While it’s nice to say you’ve been doing something for over three decades, what I think is more important is that there is rarely something I haven’t seen before. Just like it’s nice to find an older vet, someone who has been there and done that, that’s us. We’ve been there, done that, and the t-shirt is so old we had to turn it into a rag.
We don’t just have stories though, we have a system, a rhythm, and we have a successful program. We produce consistency in temperament and we know all of our bloodlines, we understand our dogs, their needs, and how to best help our owners with whatever they’re working with, whether you’re confused about what the vet was suggesting or whether you’re wondering how to work with a new behavior as your dog hits his second fear period, we can help.
In working with our owners, we’ve developed our Habibi Method and have now built that into an on-demand course to better set our owners up for success with their puppy. Despite doing this for years, we are always working to continue learning and adapting to ensure your success and the quality of life for our dogs.

At four months old, Honey was relentless about waking up Mike and Bonnie. At first they thought she was just being a playful puppy, struggling to sleep through the night, but she kept waking them up. After the fourth time waking them up, Honey pulled Mike through the front door–an unusual choice for her. That’s when he realized that there was a gas leak. After calling the utility company to come out and investigate, they were told the gas leak was so severe that they only had about 30 minutes left in the home before it would’ve been fatal.
Honey saved their lives. If she hadn’t continued to wake them up, they would’ve continued to sleep to their demise.
