#149 – 3 Tips to Survive the Puppy Phase

Here at Habibi Bears we frequently receive emails from members of our Habibi Bear Tribe asking about two main subjects concerning our youngest puppies after they’ve made the transition to their forever homes, biting and potty accidents. Both are problems that usually resolve with some patience and time as your puppy grows.  We know it seems overwhelming when you are in the thick of things with your new Habibi Bear puppy but we would like to urge you to take a step back and take a deep breath, and focus on three things.

Your puppy is a baby

If you are tired and stressed, it is easy to panic and think that whatever you are going through with your Habibi Bear guy or gal is a permanent problem that will never change. We promise you! Don’t worry, it’s just the stress talking. During these times, we would like to remind you that no matter what the issue is, your Habibi Bear puppy is a baby, and babies are in a constant state of change and development. That’s the good news! As your Habibi Bear puppy continues to grow and their brain continues to develop, any issues that you are experiencing will soon shift and a solution will be found by maintaining a consistent schedule and building your bond.

Babies need schedules

Because your Habibi Bear puppy is a baby, we recommend having your pup on  a schedule which accomplishes structure and stability for your little one. When puppies get schedules, they gain confidence, which means a more secure and well-adjusted Habibi Bear puppy. They learn that their world is a predictable, safe place. Did you know that we have a recommended schedule all ready for every one who brings home a Habibi Bear puppy? We have even worked out the perfect time for your morning coffee break so you can rest and enjoy your quiet time while your Habibi Bear puppy enjoys time in their crate with a stuffed Kong or a licky mat!

We are here for you

When you contact us in a timely manner, we work with you to find a solution for whatever issue you are experiencing with your Habibi Bear guy or gal. We are dog experts with over thirty years of experience and we have raised over two thousand dogs successfully. Often, it only takes one conversation with us to be able to see where you can tweak your routine to help get your puppy back on track, especially with developmental issues, like biting (which puppies outgrow) and potty training accidents (which puppies outgrow). Let’s begin to change our perspective on trying to control puppies and force them through puppyhood, and enjoy the ride instead. Please don’t expect a puppy to be an adult dog. We like to see every puppy as an individual, and appreciate them for who they are and where they are in their life’s journey. Our dogs have such a relatively short life compared to us, there will be a day when we would pay anything to have one more day with our precious Habibi Bear guy or gal. Let’s enjoy our Habibi Bear puppies in their puppy glory as fleeting as it is. Reach out to us if you need help, this is a no judgement zone. Our goal is to coach you through bond-building in every stage of your Habibi Bear puppy’s life. We are always here for you, cheering you on.
